Attention Donald Trump Supporters

Your candidate is being used to wreak havoc upon the Republican party. And he is being used by the Clintons, no less. Need I mention that by extension, you are being used by the Clintons to wreak havoc upon the Republican party? Doesn’t that make you feel kind of . . . well . . . stupid? Do you like feeling stupid? If so, then by all means, feel free to continue supporting Donald Trump and doing the Clintons’ dirty work for them. Otherwise, perhaps you would like to change your voting preferences. Just a thought. (Photo credit from the…

On the Confederate Flag

In the wake of the absolutely horrific shooting in South Carolina that left nine people dead, attention has swiftly turned to the display of the Confederate flag in the state, given that the murderer, Dylann Roof, was pictured wrapped in the flag, and given the (to put matters mildly) problematic history behind the flag. As anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock is well aware by now, Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina has come out in favor of removing the Confederate flag. I support this move, and think it is long overdue. But no one should pretend that…

As Glenn Reynolds Would Put It, “Oh, THAT Liberal Media!”

I didn’t like it when I heard that George Stephanopoulos had left politics for journalism. I figured that he was only being rewarded for his political stardom, that he wouldn’t do the necessary work to transform himself into a serious journalist, and that–yes–he would use his media perch to act as a shill for the Democratic party. Over time, I earned a grudging respect for Stephanopoulos. He seemed to actually be a substantive journalist, and while I didn’t follow his media career closely, I did see instances of him holding Democrats’ feet to the fire. I figured that maybe I…

Clinton Scandal Watch (A Continuing Series)

I’m waiting for Hillary Clinton to realize that she and many of those who hang around her are too ethically compromised to be allowed near the White House, and to withdraw from presidential consideration as a consequence. Until that happens, I guess that I and others will have to keep emphasizing the point that Hillary Clinton has no business being president of the United States. I have written previously about David Metcalfe, who in the past, was responsible for FOIA implementation at the Department of Justice. Here is more regarding his concerns about Clinton’s e-mail practices: . . . the soft-spoken academic who resembles…

Recent Nonsense from the Camp of the Putative Next President of the United States

Look, I really don’t want to make my blog into Clinton E-mail Central, but there really cannot be enough emphasis on this story, or on the fact that Hillary Clinton has no business being the next president of the United States, and her camp has no business having any proximity whatsoever to political power. Let us examine the latest reasons why: James Carville admits that Clinton deleted her e-mails because she wanted to frustrate congressional review and oversight of those e-mails. For the words “congressional review and oversight,” Carville uses the name “Louie Gohmert,” but of course, Congress does have 534…

Hillary Clinton Doesn’t Know the First Rule of Holes

The former secretary of state and putative next president of the United States held a press conference today to explain that thing about her e-mails. It . . . um . . . didn’t go well. Clinton now admits that yeah, maybe it would have been a good idea to use two e-mail accounts; one for official business and one for personal correspondence. We are supposed to believe the following explanation for why she didn’t: Clinton said she exclusively used her private e-mail account out of “convenience,” so as not to have to carry two phones. But she conceded that it…

Please Stop Saying that Americans Don’t Like Political Dynasties. It’s Just Not True.

It isn’t 2016 yet, but I am already sick to death of all of the claims that Americans do not like political dynasties. We have heard a fair amount of that talk in light of Hillary Clinton’s very likely candidacy for the presidency, and now that Jeb Bush appears to be getting ready to run for president as well, we are hearing even more such talk. The problem is that the talk in question is absurd. Americans may pretend to dislike political dynasties, but in fact, efforts to perpetrate such dynasties have been remarkably successful throughout American history. John Adams…

The Bill Clinton of 2014-2016 Will Not Be the Bill Clinton of 1992

Everyone who is familiar with the 1992 presidential campaign knows that Bill Clinton ran as a “new kind of Democrat,” one who would “end welfare as we know it,” one who would help craft a society that would reward those who “work hard and play by the rules.” When he ran for president in 1992, Clinton knew that he would not win if he adopted a traditional liberal stance, so he crafted the now-famous “Third Way” approach and campaigned and governed under a Third Way banner. Of course, the Third Way approach to politics and government was reinforced by the…

God Help Me . . .

Once again, I am in the position of actually–gasp!–agreeing with Maureen Dowd: CHELSEA CLINTON never acted out during the eight years she came of age as America’s first daughter. No ditching of her Secret Service detail. No fake IDs for underage tippling. No drug scandal. No court appearance in tank top and toe ring. Not even any dirty dancing. Despite a tough role as the go-between in the highly public and embarrassing marital contretemps of her parents, Chelsea stayed classy. So it’s strange to see her acting out in a sense now, joining her parents in cashing in to help…
