Uber and Micropolitics

Count me as one who is pleased to see the Republican party take the side of Uber, Lyft and other such services. It is certainly the right thing to do from a policy angle; there certainly needs to be more competition when it comes to limousine/taxi services, and companies like Uber, Lyft and Sidecar can provide that competition. With this move, the GOP is also showing that it is in favor of consumer choice, and as many young people are enamored of car-hailing and ride-sharing services, the Republican party’s decision to support those services means that a relationship can be established between Republicans and young people.

Of course, a great deal more has to be done by the Republican party to win the youth vote. Let me write that again: A great deal more has to be done by the Republican party to win the youth vote.

But this is a start.
