Opportunism Knocks

Over in California, Republicans are trying to get Democratic state senator Rod Wright kicked out of the California legislature for having been convicted of “eight counts of voter fraud and perjury for lying about whether he lived in his district.” Democrats are resisting, claiming “hilariously” that “the judge could overturn the verdict.” Of course, it should surprise precisely no one to find out that the reasons for hesitation on the part of California Democrats has much more to do with politics than it has to do with issues of ethics:

If Wright goes and if State Sen. Ron Calderon, recently charged by the feds for corruption, gets convicted, the Democrats will lose their supermajority in the legislature, thus giving Republicans a little bit more influence on lawmaking.

I thought that at least from time to time, justice was supposed to be done though the heavens may fall. Shows what I know.
